ISA Will-DuPage – The Silver Anniversary is Upon Us

We’ll be celebrating our 25th anniversary next year. To me this doesn’t just mean 25 years of our section being around. It represents a huge amount of work on the part of volunteer board members. Tabletop Shows and Golf Outings don’t just happen. There are many big tasks, and hundreds of small tasks that must be coordinated. It’s too much for even a few people, so we’ve got 16+ board members now, everyone pitches in.

Summer is upon us. Our golf outing is coming up and we’ve completed our section meetings for 2016-2017. In past years we’ve relied on board members to provide ideas for technical presentations. And now, for something completely different. The Board of Directors & I would invite you to give us some input on topics for Section Meetings & Tabletop Training Sessions for the coming year.

Are Careers in Manufacturing Just “Dirty Jobs’?

A recent article, Are Parents Out of Touch with Careers in Manufacturing? by Joel Don, discussed the poor perception taken by some regarding manufacturing careers. These people may believe these careers are monotonous, dirty, dangerous, and a dead-end. This view may be held by some, but many people working in this field know better. They know that technicians, engineers, and business professionals are typically highly skilled, highly paid, and in great demand. They know that industrial technology, presently in use, requires high-tech skills. Further, they know that the foundation for these high-tech skills is available NOW!
