Computer Virtualization in Process Control and Industrial Applications
Join us in March as we learn from Mark Farrant – Hipskind TSG how the use of “Computer Virtualization” is being widely accepted with the process control community, and can extend the life of controls systems that run on obsoleted operating systems, and also reduce the downtime associates with Computer Hardware Failures.
The average lifecycle of process control systems far exceed the lifecycle of the computer based workstations and servers that visualize the information that we need to operate our plants. With the ever changing Operating Systems, and associated computers to support those systems, keeping the plant running can be a challenge.
Once there was a separation of Information Technology (IT) and Plant Floor Control Systems departments, and now many those lines of who has ownership of the system have become blurry.
Mark Farrant has over 20 years’ experience in the IT industry in both the government and private sectors and has provided business solutions for systems management, systems implementation, compliance, governance, business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Mark is the Director of Consulting Services at Hipskind TSG who provides engineering expertise to deliver optimal solutions in the areas of Server and Storage Virtualization, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning.
Topics to be Covered:
- How Computer Operating Systems have Changed
- Current Factory Automation deployments on Physical Infrastructure
- Computer Virtualization 101 – What is it and How does it work
- Factory Automation on Virtualized Infrastructure
- Disaster Recovery – How a Virtualized control system eliminates costly downtime
- Considerations when sizing a system
