The High-Frequency Radar Arms Race – What we Knew and What we Need to Know
Join us February 22nd as we learn from Xan Danes – Endress+Hauser about high-frequency radar level transmitters, how they break the mold and what we knew about radar but put us into uncharted waters when it comes to permeability and permittivity.
Anyone who works with level transmitters is familiar with the dielectric constant, a measure of the permittivity of a substance relative to the permittivity of a vacuum. We’ve always assumed that the permeability of the vapor space in an application is ~1, so how does the permeability affect radar propagation at different frequencies when the vapor space composition changes? This presentation highlights which materials affect microwave propagation that are both independent of frequency and dependent of frequency and shine a spotlight towards the unknowns when new microwave radar frequencies are developed.
Xan Danes is a Chemical Engineer by degree from The Ohio State Unversity but an Instrumentation Engineer by trade. After working extensively in refinery environments early in his career he’s worked with Endress+Hauser in technical product roles with a focus on ioninzing and non-ionizing radiation. Radar level measurement and radiometric measurement pose complex issues at times and resolution of those issues while educating clients is a passion.
