October 2013 Technical Meeting

Tuesday, October 15, 2013 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Enhancing Pipeline Safety through Valve Automation

Join us in October as we learn from Mark Adelmann – EN Engineering how the implementation of improved valve automation systems is helping to reduce the risk and minimize the effects of pipeline failures.

The San Bruno Incident in 2010 has put a renewed emphasis on pipeline safety. To protect the public, their infrastructure and as result of new regulations, gas pipeline operators are implementing programs to enhance the safety and reliability of their transmission and distribution networks.

These are typically major, multi-year programs that include testing, pipe replacement, valve automation, inspection and records review.

Mark is Vice President of the Automation & Electrical Design group at EN Engineering. EN Engineering provides engineering, consulting and automation services to pipeline companies, utilities, municipalities and industrial customers. He has a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois and over thirty years of experience in the design of automation systems for the pipeline industry.

We will Discuss:

  • Pipeline Infrastructure and Failures
  • Pipeline Safety Enhancement Programs
  • Valve Automation Strategies and Design Philosophy
  • Design Considerations and Challenges
  • Design of a Typical Valve Automation System
  • Operational Considerations
