SUMMARY:November 2014 Technical Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Good Vibrations: Thermowells\, the Wake Frequency Calculation\, and You\nJoin the ISA\, Will-DuPage Section in November as we learn from Eric Lofland – Ambitech about the theory and practice behind thermowell specification and the wake frequency analysis.\n“Good Vibrations: Thermowells\, the Wake Frequency Calculation\, and You” presents a user’s perspective in the design of thermowells\, including an analysis of the wake frequency calculation. This includes a discussion of the theory of wake frequency and the ins and outs of the ASME 19.3 TW code that governs the calculation. Particular emphasis is placed on how to design solutions to challenging applications with real-world examples to clarify the design process.\nEric Lofland graduated with a B. S. in Chemical Engineering from Florida State University. Eric has worked as an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with Ambitech Engineering Corporation for the past 3 years\, where he provides instrumentation design services to refineries and chemical plants. He specializes in control valves\, thermowells\, and specifications that interface with chemical processes.\nSocial Hour Sponsored by: Daily Thermetrics\nAttend this seminar and you can receive 1.0 Professional Development Hours (PDH)\nPrint Here and Post by the Coffee Machine.

SUMMARY:October 2014 Technical Meeting
DESCRIPTION:TDL Technology for Gas Analyzing and Process Applications\nJoin the ISA\, Will-DuPage Section in October as we learn from Ron Eddleman – Yokogawa Corporation of America about Tunable Diode Laser Technology and Applications.\nRon will discuss Yokogawa’s Direct Absorption TDL. He will describe how TDL analyzers work as well as installation and application of these analyzers in the process environment.\nRon started his career at Gulf Oil in Port Arthur\, Texas in 1969 where he worked in plant operations for 11 years with most of this time spent in the Ethylene unit. He joined the Instrumentation/Analyzer department in 1980 where he had the opportunity to work on all of the facility’s process analyzers. In 1992 Ron left the refinery to work with Measurementation as a Field Service Engineer. During his tenure with Measurementation\, he spent two years as an analyzer specialist at the Chevron Refinery in Hawaii where he trained all of Chevron’s analyzers technicians and ultimately brought all facility analyzers to 95% on line operation. Since 2000 when Yokogawa purchased Measurementation\, Ron has served in numerous roles in the Advanced Analyzer Group including TDL\, GC\, and Analyzer Systems Integration. Ron has been working primarily in sales for the past 8 years but also provides support for all of Yokogawa’s Advanced Analyzer Products.\nWe Will Discuss: \nHow TDL works\nInstallation of Insitu applications\nApplications of TDL-Combustion Control \nSocial Hour Sponsored by: JMI Instrument Co.\nAttend this seminar and you can receive 1.0 Professional Development Hours (PDH)\nPrint Here and Post by the Coffee Machine.

SUMMARY:March 2013 Technical Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Computer Virtualization in Process Control and Industrial Applications\nJoin us in March as we learn from Mark Farrant – Hipskind TSG how the use of “Computer Virtualization” is being widely accepted with the process control community\, and can extend the life of controls systems that run on obsoleted operating systems\, and also reduce the downtime associates with Computer Hardware Failures. \nThe average lifecycle of process control systems far exceed the lifecycle of the computer based workstations and servers that visualize the information that we need to operate our plants. With the ever changing Operating Systems\, and associated computers to support those systems\, keeping the plant running can be a challenge. \nOnce there was a separation of Information Technology (IT) and Plant Floor Control Systems departments\, and now many those lines of who has ownership of the system have become blurry. \nMark Farrant has over 20 years’ experience in the IT industry in both the government and private sectors and has provided business solutions for systems management\, systems implementation\, compliance\, governance\, business continuity and disaster recovery planning. Mark is the Director of Consulting Services at Hipskind TSG who provides engineering expertise to deliver optimal solutions in the areas of Server and Storage Virtualization\, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure and Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning. \nTopics to be Covered: \n \n\nHow Computer Operating Systems have Changed\nCurrent Factory Automation deployments on Physical Infrastructure\nComputer Virtualization 101 – What is it and How does it work\nFactory Automation on Virtualized Infrastructure\nDisaster Recovery – How a Virtualized control system eliminates costly downtime\nConsiderations when sizing a system\n\n \nSocial Hour Sponsored By: Revere Electric\nAttend this seminar and you can receive 1.0 Professional Development Hours (PDH) \nCheck out Mark’s presentation below:\nComupter Virtualization Presentation
